During this period I also stumbled onto a new career as a typesetter, in a little hole in the wall studio about the size of two broom closets put together. Since it was right smack in the middle of all the recording activity that was going on, it was getting lots of work putting together album covers (remember those?) and promotional materials for bands,
so it became a pretty cool place to spend my time.

Richard "Eli" Harrington was the brains behind the operation, and he took me under his wing almost immediately. Aside from showing me the ropes on the typesetting gear - a machine the size of a small Volkswagen (but with a tiny memory chip) that clicked and whirred and made all kinds of alarming sounds - he also took an interest in my music and he introduced me to his ex-girlfriend, a photographer named Millie Strom who had married none other than blues legend John Lee Hooker. We took off to California to visit them and do a photo shoot, and the result was a bit of a makeover for yours truly...
